What happened to state’s ‘tax holiday’?

Some Marylanders are looking enviously at residents of the District and Virginia who have a ‘‘tax holiday” for the purchase of certain items for the coming school year. I suspect that some of them are actually crossing the border to take advantage of these tax holidays.

Maryland used to have a similar tax holiday. What happened to it? Blame the law of unintended consequences. Jean Cryor, a Republican, was the state delegate who sponsored the bill to create the tax holiday. Unfortunately for Maryland parents of school children, voters in District 15 tried to send a message about Iraq and consequently Maryland parents will pay more this fall.
