New England in Bethesda: Balconies, porches added to ‘Revival’ home

Sited on half an acre in Bethesda’s Bannockburn community, a brand-new home offers all that a homeowner would wish for: a gourmet kitchen, spacious rooms including the owners’ suite, and gleaming hardwood floors and decorative moldings throughout.

Multiple porches, balconies and French doors further add a “breath of fresh air“ feel to the home, inspired by the New England-style home.

Built by local builder Carey Hoobler of Ellison Corp., the home has four levels with open floor plans and an attached single garage. A detached carriage house includes space for two cars

Fresh plantings and bright white trim add appeal to the home’s façade, which has a large columned porch with a balcony above.

Inside, the home shines with the hardwood floors, the ample windows on nearly every wall, and the white oversized crown moldings and window trims. Neutral pastel paint colors adorn the walls throughout, including the living and dining rooms that flank the foyer.

Perhaps the heart of the home, and among the outstanding rooms in the home, is the kitchen. Here, custom white cabinetry and soapstone counters, topped off with luxury fixtures and appliances (including a six-burner stove), make any chef’s dream come true. A vegetable sink island has eat-in space, while a chandelier above the island and recessed lights complete the space.

The attached breakfast room has a triple window, and French doors to a flagstone patio.

A butler’s pantry is off of here.

The family room, which opens to the kitchen, showcases a fireplace with a mantel surrounded by decorative molding that extends to the ceiling. Windows and French doors to the rear yard bring in more daylight.

Like the breakfast and family rooms, the living room at the front of the home also offers French doors to the patio and porch areas. This separate patio off of the living and family rooms is covered and has a fireplace.

A powder room off of the entry area completes the main level.

The second level offers four bedrooms including the owners’ suite.

The suite has hardwood floor, a gas fireplace with a mantel, walk-in closets and an attached bath with vaulted ceilings, generous windows and beaded wainscoting paneled walls below the chair rail. The spa-like bath also boasts a jetted tub, a double ceramic-tiled shower with rain and handheld showerheads, dual pedestal sinks and Thermasoft heated marble tiled floor. A custom Amish vanity including apothecary drawers finishes the sumptuous bath.

One of the other rooms on this floor also has an attached bath, as well as a French door to a private balcony. A hall bath and the laundry room round out this level.

The top floor has a bedroom with generous closet space, and a full bath – ideal for an inlaw or au-pair suite.

The lower level features a rec room, a sixth bedroom and a full bath.

The finished, walkout basement is carpeted.

Outside, the rear yard includes a carriage house with a two-car garage and unfinished space above. The room has cathedral ceilings, a French door to a balcony, and windows including a large dormer overlooking the yard and main house. This space is ideal for an office or a studio.
