Gaithersburg man acquitted in Pa. crash

A Gaithersburg trucker was acquitted Aug. 2 of charges in a Feb. 8 accident that killed a Honduran diplomat on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Sam P. Thompson, 32, a Ghana native, is in the custody of the United States Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to an ICE spokesman. Thompson, of the 19500 block of Tavarney Drive, is seeking legal residency, according to news reports.

A Pennsylvania jury found Thompson not guilty after a four-day trial. He was charged with vehicular homicide and five traffic violations.

Nunia Ortiz Navarro, 31, died at the scene of the wreck.
