Frank DeBold, 81, of Rockville died of heart failure July 15, 2007.

He was the husband of the late Joan Marie DeBold, to whom he was married 51 years.

He was born July 16, 1926, in Ridgewood, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph DeBold and Anna Merz DeBold.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from St. John’s University in New York.

Mr. DeBold served in World War II with the 311th Infantry Regiment 78th (Lightning) Division. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his bravery in combat in Central Europe and the Rhineland.

Mr. DeBold was employed at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in White Oak. He was a nuclear physicist. He retired in 1988 after 38 years of government service.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Montgomery County Road Runners and Vitro Tennis Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen DeBold of Burtonsville and Bonnie DeBold of York, Pa., one son, Daniel DeBold of Olney; two sisters, Anna Talks of Port Orange, Fla., and Rose Steger of Hacienda Heights, Calif., and one brother, Ray DeBold of Whitestone, N.Y.

A brother, Joseph DeBold, of San Diego, Calif., preceded him in death.

A funeral Mass with military honors will be held Sept. 4 at 2:45 p.m. in Fort Myers Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
