C.R. Associates gets new head of design

Remodeling company, C.R. Associates, LLC, based in Darnestown, recently appointed Olav Gjerde as the new head of the design department. His job will be to design and draw additions, kitchens, bathrooms, and other concepts for renovations. The new design department allows C.R. Associates to offer a quicker turn around for concept drawings and more accurate proposals, resulting in a more streamlined construction process.

Gjerde is joining the C.R. Associates team with extensive carpentry skills and six years of design and drafting experience. He previously worked as a drafter for Specified Woodworking Corporation and Lancaster Craftsmen builders. He is proficient in multiple computer based architectural programs.

C.R. Associates, LLC is a design⁄build firm with most projects in the upper Montgomery County area. Their projects range from multi-story additions to custom master bedrooms and in-law suites to kitchen and bathroom remodels to exterior living spaces.

Children’s Inn CEOwins Bravo Award

Kathy L. Russell, CEO of The Children’s Inn at NIH, a nonprofit ‘‘place like home” for seriously ill children involved in research at the National Institutes of Health, has won a ‘‘Bravo! Women Business Achievement Award.”

During a July 25 reception marking the first annual Bravo! Women Business Achievement Awards, Russell was honored for her dynamic leadership by Washington SmartCEO Magazine, which initiated the award. Russell and 25 businesswomen in the Greater Washington region received awards

As both a founding member of The Inn and a visionary champion of its future success, Russell is widely respected among colleagues and employees for her compassion and commitment. With more than 25 years experience as a health care administrator, Russell now oversees a staff of 17 full-time employees, 10 part-time employees, 250 volunteers and more than 1,200 families of seriously ill children.

Under Russell’s leadership, The Inn’s programs and services for families have been widely expanded to include financial assistance for families in crisis, educational programs for siblings and residents and a comprehensive spiritual wellness program.

Russell has initiated incentives and programs for employees, including benefits for part-time employees, paid leave for volunteering in the community and tuition reimbursements for career advancement.

COMMAND! Associates, opens in Bethesda

COMMAND! Associates, LLC, a new consulting firm focused on helping businesses improve planning processes and staff productivity recently opened in Bethesda.

The firm was formed by two former career naval officers with 75 years collective experience in consulting, business ownership and management, senior military command and staff positions and teaching at the university level.

Their business is centered on their ‘‘Seven Steps to Success Through Empowerment,” based on a time-tested planning process used by the Department of Defense.
