Illegal immigrant sentenced for identity theft

A Takoma Park man was sentenced to 27 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release Thursday after he pled guilty to making a false statement on a passport application and aggravated identity theft, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Benson Emesiobi, 34, a Nigerian national, is expected to be deported after serving his federal sentence, the release said. According to his guilty plea, Emesiobi used another person's information to file for a passport and apply for a $350,000 home loan, the release said.
