Clara Schoenborn

Clara Eddy Hamilton Schoenborn, 85, of Camden, S.C., formerly of Silver Spring, died Aug. 9, 2008, in the Karesh Wing of the Kershaw County Medical Center.

Born March 14, 1923, in Stamford, Conn., she was a daughter of the late Dr. William and Helen Folsom Dula Hamilton.

She was the wife of the late Dr. Henry W. Schoenborn.

Mrs. Schoenborn graduated from Tubman High School as valedictorian. She graduated from the University of Georgia and held the highest grade-point average ever held by a woman at the university. She earned a master's degree from the University of Illinois and was awarded a doctorate in zoology and physiology.

She was a study section administrator at the National Institutes of Health and was a member of the Women's Board of Montgomery General Hospital in Olney and volunteered in the gift shop.

Survivors include one sister, Mary M. Calk of Camden; nine nieces and nephews; and 15 grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, David P. Hamilton and Dr. William F. Hamilton Jr.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
