Clara Barton Parkway work underway

The ramp from Clara Barton Parkway westbound to I-495 was closed on Monday to accommodate construction work, according to the State Highway Administration. The ramp will be closed through the fall.

The detour for drivers going westbound on the parkway is to take the following exit to the Naval Surface Warfare Center and the Carderock Recreation Area, then make two left turns to the eastbound side of the parkway. Drivers should then use the left-hand exit on the parkway's eastbound side to reach I-495 southbound.

Drivers will be permitted to make a left turn at the Warfare Center exit without stopping, although drivers are urged to exercise caution due to the new traffic pattern.

Construction crews will be replacing the concrete bridge deck that is part of the parkway's exit ramp. Cleaning and painting of the bridge's steel beams will also take place, along with minor repairs of the approaching roadway.

In July, the SHA announced the Clara Barton Parkway ramp would be closed beginning on Aug. 4.
