Two-vehicle collision leaves car in flamesA two-car collision in the 9700 block of Great Seneca Highway in Rockville Monday afternoon sent one man to the hospital and left a vehicle aflame on the front lawn of the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy, county fire and rescue officials said. A vehicle with two passengers swerved onto the lawn of the training academy after colliding with another vehicle and then rolled onto its side against a tree before catching fire, said Pete Piringer, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. "Some instructors from the academy were outside and were able to pull the passengers from the vehicle," he said. "Some fire and rescue personnel were there also, and tended to the victims until units from the nearest station arrived." About a dozen fire and rescue responders arrived on the scene and quickly put out the fire, he said. The crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. One passenger of the burning vehicle, a man in his 50s, was taken to a local trauma center with non-life threatening injuries, Piringer said. He did not have any information on the other vehicle, but an investigation into the crash continues.
