What important issues should be addressed by the Register of Wills and how would you deal with them?

The most important issue that I have consistently addressed as Register of Wills is the need for public awareness of estate planning issues.  When someone dies, the Register of Wills Office assists the family in finalizing all of the decedent’s business matters and distribution of their assets.  Studies indicate that 70% of American adults do not have wills to determine how their assets should be distributed, and the number is significantly higher in communities of color.  If you leave no will you give up your right to decide who inherits your property and who will be the guardian of your minor children.   As a former estates and trusts attorney, I have dealt with complicated probate and tax issues, and understand the importance of estate planning for your family’s future.
