Temple Hills swims to easy victory in Division G meet

The Prince-Mont Swim League Division G championship meet at Suburban Aquatic Club belonged to Temple Hills.

Temple Hills amassed 308.5 points, well clear of Roger Carter (282), Suburban Aquatic Club (232), Bolling (141.5) and Oxon Hill (83). Temple Hills’ swimmers won 16 of the 44 individual events and capped the meet by taking the girls’ 9-18 graduated relay in a virtual walkover.

Jordan Brown won three events for Temple Hills in the 15-18 boys’ category. Brown opened the meet by edging teammate Stephen Malecki by one second in the 50-meter butterfly (32.58 seconds), defeating Malecki again in the 100 free (1 minute, 2.74 seconds) and completed the triple by taking the 50 backstroke by seven seconds. Malecki edged teammate Nicholas Willoughby in the 100 individual medley by less than three-tenths of a second.

Temple Hills’ Rachel Harris completed a triple by taking the 11-12 girls’ 50 freestyle, 50 back and 100 IM. Patricia Kelshaw won the 13-14 girls’ 50 fly by a full second, then finished second in the 50 breaststroke before taking the 100 IM. Jessica Collins and teammate Lauren Malecki finished one-two in the 15-18 girls’ 50 fly. Collins would later take second in the 100 free and 100 IM. Shelley Vermeire captured the 13-14 girls’ 50 free by a full second and the 50 back by two seconds. Michelle LaChance took third in the 15-18 girls’ 100 free, but later beat Malecki in the 50 breast. Malecki returned to take the 50 back.

The Temple Hills’ mixed 8-and-under relay of Vincent Rojas, Aurora Myers, Austin Lawson and Emily Wilson finished third, while the quartet of Dominick Summers, Jordan Jacinto, Nicholas Summers and Stephen Malecki placed third in the 9-18 boys’ graduated relay. The Temple Hills tandem of Gloria Benton, Rachel Harris, Shelley Vermeire and Jessica Collins concluded the meet by taking the 9-18 girls’ graduated relay (2:22.09), nearly four seconds under its seed time.

Oxon Hill struggled this summer, but the small squad had several bright spots in the Division G meet.

Kenny Weaver won the 13-14 boys’ 50 back (43.15) by six seconds over teammate Ryan Casey. Weaver and Casey had earlier finished second and third, respectively, in the 50 breast. Thomas Casey finished third in the 13-14 boys’ 50 fly, second in the 50 free and second in the 100 IM. Rachel Galbreath took third in the girls’ 8-under 25 breast. Hannah Galbreath placed third in the 11-12 girls’ 50 breast. Chase Steinberger finished second in the 11-12 boys’ 50 back.

Marlton places third

The Marlton Swim and Recreation Club finished third in the Prince-Mont Swim League Division D meet at Northridge on Saturday in a close battle against Northridge and Smallwood Village. Marlton had 234.5 points, just 9.5 points behind Charles County-based Smallwood. Host Northridge won the meet with 259 points.

Marlton had 13 first-place finishers, including three wins by Ben Lawless in the 8-and-under boys’ 25-meter butterfly (19.56 seconds), 50 freestyle (37.95) and the 25 backstroke (21.54) in the 9-10 boys’ events.

Zack Spain was also a triple winner, taking the 8-and-under boys’ 25 free (19.95), the 25 breast (26.20) by almost four seconds and the 25 back (25.09).

Jacob Dohrman captured the 11-12 boys’ fly in 40.57 and back in 42.08. Michael Gray was also a double winner in the older boys’ 100 free in 59.56 and the 50 back in 29.37.

Eric Carr was an easy winner in the 13-14 boys’ 100 individual medley in 1:20.75. Carr was also part of the winning 9-18 boys’ 200 free relay along with Lawless, Dohrman and Gray. The quartet won by nearly three full seconds,

In the 8-and-under mixed 100 free relay, Jamie Lawless was part of the winning foursome (1:30.52) along with Taylor Luskey, Darian Joyner and Spain.
