Denver Nuggets player Allen Iverson has donated $25,000 to Bowie State University for a scholarship that will benefit a student-athlete attending the school.

The award was presented at the Allen Iverson Celebrity Softball Game at Prince George’s Stadium on July 17.

The endowed scholarship will be awarded annually to one full-time, undergraduate Bowie State student, said Yolanda J. Pruitt, acting vice president of external relations for Bowie State.

The Allen Iverson Student-Athlete Scholarship was established last year, and the first recipient was Saint Augustine’s College in Raleigh, N.C., according to a news release from the university.

This year’s scholarship awards were given to both Bowie State and Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.

The institutions are chosen because of their membership in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, an NCAA Division II conference of historically black colleges, the release said.
