This brick home with a columned portico and a trio of dormer windows stands tall in Kentlands Gatehouse, a community of large homes on small lots designed for a close-knit feel that many owners prefer in a neighborhood.

Built in 1992, the home offers over 3,000 finished square feet on three levels. A courtyard with a stone patio and a pond connects the home and a detached, two-car garage accessed via an alleyway.

Brick steps lead up to the front door, which opens to a foyer with a staircase, a coat closet and a powder room. Hardwood floors run throughout the main level, which has an open-floor plan.

The living and family rooms flank the foyer area. The living room, to the right, features a pair of front windows and oversized crown molding. Sunny yellow walls here and in the attached dining room contrast nicely with bright white molding and trim.

A pair of columns frames the dining, which also has chair rail and wainscoting, a brass chandelier with a ceiling medallion, and a bay picture window looking out to the courtyard.

The kitchen offers cherry cabinets, granite counters and stainless steel appliances, as well as a pantry and an over-the-sink window overlooking the backyard.

The extended cooking counter separates the kitchen and the breakfast room, which has a designer chandelier and a back window with a built-in seat below. A mud area nearby has washer⁄dryer hookup, and a door leading to the courtyard. A covered breezeway connects the house to the garage, providing shelter during rainy weather.

Back inside, the breakfast area opens to the family room, which boasts a floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace with a raised hearth. Recessed lights and two front windows complete the room, which also has white molding and trim against yellow-colored walls.

Upstairs, carpet covers the floors throughout, except in the ceramic baths.

The owners’ suite features a tray ceiling with an overhead fan, recessed lights and a pair of windows in the bedroom area. The attached bath has an oversized jetted tub with bay windows above, a double vanity and a large walk-in closet.

The floor and tub surround is all-white ceramic. Double doors connect the suite and the adjacent bedroom, which the owners are using as a sitting room.

The other two bedrooms have lighted ceiling fans and share a hall bath and a linen closet.

The finished basement is carpeted, and offers a large rec area, a full bath and a room that can be an office or extra bedroom.
