This blonde-brick French Mansard-style home offers nearly 6,000 finished square feet on three levels, plus a gently sloped three-acre yard, a 45- by 20-foot inground pool with gazebo, and private tennis courts.

Located a few miles from Gambrill State Park to the west and historic Frederick to the east, residents enjoy both city and country experiences nearby.

A steep mansard roof with dormers distinguishes the home’s exterior. This architectural style, which originated in France during Napoleon’s day, was replicated in the United States during the Victorian years and again during the 1970s, when this home was built.

The landscape includes vibrant perennials and border-accent plants around the courtyards, foundation and inside the circular driveway. Energy-efficient windows and exterior light fixtures were recently installed.

Behind the arched wood front doors, faux-brick ceramic flooring has been polished to a shine. A wooden staircase leads upstairs. Freshly painted walls throughout the home enhance the crown moldings and architectural accents. A coat room provides two large closets and room for seating. A half-bath nearby features a hand-painted ceramic sink.

The formal living room features newly-refinished hardwood floors, crown and base molding, and a masonry fireplace with a decorative wood mantel and slate hearth flanked by tall windows. French doors lead to a large screened-in porch, which can also be accessed through the dining room and the kitchen.

A wood-paneled library with built-ins and hardwood floor is off of the living room, and has six-panel pocket doors.

The formal dining room also has hardwood floor, crown, chair and base moldings, and a six-panel pocket door. An imported chandelier from Spain hangs from a ceiling medallion, while French doors open to the screened porch.

The breakfast room in the rear of the house features a beamed ceiling, two custom butler’s cupboards, and a third set of French doors to the porch.

Adjacent, the center-island kitchen has custom pecan cabinetry with deep rolling shelves inside, butcher-block countertops, and a pass-through to the breakfast room. Updates include a newer island cooktop, side-by-side refrigerator and a tile backsplash. In-wall audio speakers were installed in many first-floor rooms.

Beamed ceilings, knotty pine walls and hardwood floors combine to create a rustic feel inside the spacious family room. An oversized wood-burning fireplace above a raised hearth has a built-in log storage area, a custom-made screen and a wood mantel. Custom-built bookshelves and cabinets provide display areas for favorite books and mementos. French doors lead to the foyer.

A back hallway leads to a second home office, a half-bath, the laundry room and a side-load two-car garage. A separate staircase leads up to an inlaw suite built over the garage. This ‘‘service” area of the house has a private entrance from the driveway, just inside a side courtyard.

Up the main staircase, a gleaming hardwood hallway leads past three hall closets and three dormer windows that overlook the pool and city views.

At the end of the hall, the master bedroom features new Berber carpet, a walk-in closet and a private bath just beyond a dressing area with his⁄hers vanities. The bath has an additional closet, a Jacuzzi jetted tub surrounded by mosaic tile flooring, and separate shower.

Three additional bedrooms share a hall bath with a tub⁄shower combination and a double vanity.

The lower level was renovated last December and comprises a rec room with a gas fireplace, French doors to a lower-level patio, and an inlaw bedroom suite. An unfinished area offers extra storage.
