The new Commerce Bank branch at Castle Boulevard and Briggs Chaney Road in Silver Spring has created a mural from a historic Silver Spring scene as a way to connect the bank to the community, according to a news release from the bank.

The bank created the 7.5-by-13.5-foot mural by colorizing and enhancing an old black-and-white photograph courtesy of the Silver Spring Historical Society. The photo, taken in 1917 depicts the east side of Washington and Brookeville Turnpike looking north from Sligo Avenue.
