In the world of jewelry, everyone is always looking for the right piece to complement an outfit or just to stand out. Nineteen-year-old Lucy Wright of Fort Washington wants to help customers find the right jewelry piece and for a great price too with her own line, Lucy’s Jewelry Box.

Wright’s jewelry line focuses on providing consumers with quality fashion jewelry at an inexpensive price. Wright credits her business partner and friend, 21-year-old Lyndon Watson of Waldorf, with inspiring her to start her own business after commenting on the jewelry she was wearing.

‘‘Seeing that I am a young female that goes to an all-girl school, I found it a great opportunity that couldn’t be passed up,” Wright said.

Wright, a sophomore at Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and Watson, a TESST College student, started the business six months ago after doing research on the internet.

The company sells fashion jewelry such as rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces at prices ranging from $5 to $30.

‘‘Our price points are low enough for people to get quality fashion jewelry, especially today,” Watson said. ‘‘The economy is turning, and a lot of people want a good quality product for a good price.” While the pieces are made by several manufacturers, Watson and Wright design all the pieces themselves and submit them to the manufacturers. According to Watson, Wright is the main designer and face of the company, while he builds and maintains the website and product.

‘‘Right now our main goal is to build a strong clientele to sell our product,” Watson said.

Through word of mouth, promotion of their website and community events such as June’s Bowie Fest in Bowie, Lucy’s Jewelry Box has garnered positive reviews and gained a base of repeat customers.

‘‘Lucy’s Jewelry Box is a unique, fun and exciting new company, which offers an extraordinary array of distinctive and creative designs that cater to all ages,” said customer Monica Simmons of Silver Spring.

Our customers like that they haven’t seen the pieces before, and when they buy from us it’s exclusive to them,” Wright said.

Currently Wright and Watson plan on re-launching the company’s Web site and designing a piece of jewelry to give away to customers for free.
