Funds will help community
|
The grant money discussed in the June 19 article, "Grant to help fight against gangs," would help increase the amount of officers in these areas to patrol, protect and regain control of the communities with gang problems.
It also would help fund programs that would help prevent youths from joining gangs, and this would be a positive thing both for the youths and for the community.
For years, areas like Langley Park, Hyattsville and Landover have been hot spots for gang-run activities and crimes. Money from this grant would mean adding more officers, increasing the morality of the people and instilling more order while cutting down the gang population. Also money from this grant means giving youths more programs; this would lessen the recruitment of many youths in gangs, giving them an option for a brighter future.
Lastly, these programs would also give confidence not only to the children but the entire community, meaning we can keep the gangs at bay and keep the children in school, off the streets and from a negatively driven future.
