First team

Coach of Year

Kathy Becker

Linganore

After a resurgent 2007 campaign, the veteran head coach the Lancers to the Frederick County Tournament Championship as well as the Chesapeake Conferent title in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League.

Player of the Year

Katie Schafer

Linganore

The senior, who will play at Mary Washington University in Virginia next season, captured the state tournament in 2008, avenging a loss in the finals last spring. Also won the Region I and Frederick County singles crowns.

Brittany Bolster, Liberty

Senior won her fourth consecutive Carroll County singles championship while winning a region title. Was named the County’s Player of the Year.

Gabie Batista, Century

Was second in the Carroll County Tournament in girls singles and named to the All-County squad as well.

Emily Maerz, Middletown

Teamed up with her brother Tommy to win the county mixed doubles crown and finished third in the state in mixed doubles.

Lindsey Main, Middletown

First team All-MVAL Piedmont last season enjoyed a banner season in 2008, finishing second in the Frederick County and Region I singles tourney’s and taking third in the state tourney.

Emily Saenez⁄Stacey Niehoff, TJ

Won the Frederick County and Region I girls doubles championships and advanced all the way into the state tournament.

Jackie Brady⁄Stephanie Eyler, Catoctin

Tandem placed second in the Frederick County doubles tournament, advancing to Region I competition.

Michelle Voight, Urbana

Combined with Trevor Smith to place second in the county mixed doubles finals.
