County police continue to investigate two crashes that occurred about 15 minutes apart in the greater Olney area early Sunday morning, claiming the life of two young men.

The first crash occurred in the 19100 block of Georgia Avenue in Brookeville at approximately 2:21 a.m., police reported.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Steven Ryan McWilliams, 19, of the 22400 block of Georgia Avenue in Brookeville, was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee northbound on Georgia Avenue just south of Gold Mine Road when the vehicle crossed the center line, left the roadway on the southbound side of Georgia Avenue and struck a utility pole, police said.

McWilliams was transported with life-threatening injuries to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Systems in Baltimore, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said.

The other occurred at 2:37 a.m. on Olney-Laytonsville Road (Route 108) near Olney Mill Road in Olney.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a white 1997 BMW M3 was traveling westbound on Olney-Laytonsville Road when it left the road and struck a tree, police reported. The vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Police said the driver of the BMW was identified as Krzysztof Galecki, 18, of the 19300 block of Cypress Hill Way of Gaithersburg. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Galecki was not wearing a seat belt, police reported.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will conduct an autopsy, police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed either of the crashes is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
