Willard Larson

Willard Roy Larson, 77, of Gaithersburg, formerly of Rockville and Derwood, died of congestive heart failure on July 5, 2008.

Born July 3, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Roy R. and Marion Larson.

Mr. Larson served as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He held a master’s of science degree in mechanical engineering from New York University and had a lifelong career with IBM. He also worked at H&R Block in Lakeforest mall for 17 years. He was the founder of Friends of Seneca Creek State Park, a charter member of the Montgomery County Civil War Round Table and a member of Crusader Lutheran Church. He was the first recipient of the Gaithersburg Character Counts award.

Survivors include three children, Debbie Main and husband,Jim of Mount Airy, Denise and Tim Gray of Alexandria, Va., and David Larson and wife Amy of Harrisburg, Pa.; one sister, Barbara Herting of Bartonsville, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.

A viewing will be held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg. Funeral will be 11 a.m. on Saturday at Crusader Lutheran Church, 1605 Viers Mill Road, Rockville.
