A man wanted on homicide and attempted homicide charges stemming from a July 1 slaying in Prince George's County barricaded himself in a Takoma Park apartment Monday afternoon, according to Takoma Park Police, who earlier in the day captured another man wanted in connection with that slaying.
As of 6:30 p.m., officers from Takoma Park, Prince George's County, Montgomery County and Park Police were on the scene at the apartments in the 7100 block of Aspen Avenue, where Delonte Gomez, 28, had barricaded himself after running from police earlier.
Cathy Plevy, a spokeswoman for Takoma Park Police, said she was unsure whether Gomez was armed. She said she didn't believe any hostages were involved or if anyone was in danger.
Officers with the Takoma Park Police Department's Tactical Enforcement Unit were on routine patrol when they spotted Gomez and Stephen Simmons, 23, in the area of Sligo Creek Parkway. Both men are wanted by Prince George's County Police in connection with a July 1 homicide and attempted homicide on New Hampshire Avenue in Langley Park, Prince George's County.
Takoma Park Police captured Simmons after a foot chase and turned him over to Prince George's County Police.
Neither Plevy nor Prince George's County Police could confirm whether the men were wanted in connection with the July 1 slaying of Christopher Damean Wright of the 14600 block of Notley Road in Silver Spring, who also was killed in a shooting on New Hampshire Avenue in Langley Park. Plevy also could not confirm where the two men are from.
"At this point we're just assisting Prince George's County Police, because it's their warrant and their fugitive, even though this happened in Takoma Park," Plevy said.
