The Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce is running a summer membership special where our membership rates are only $47.50 for the remainder of the year.

That’s a savings of 50 percent off the regular rates; the offer is available until Aug. 31. Chamber members receive benefits including a free listing on our Web site, special advertising opportunities, networking events and local discounts.

We have quite a few upcoming networking events and the Professional Development Committee is working on several workshops that will be available to members in the fall.

An ‘‘Excel Level One” two-part workshop will be held 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 22 and 24 in Room 152 at the Washington Road campus of Carroll Community College.

E-mail and flier notices will be sent a month prior to the workshop for members to sign up.

A maximum number of students will be allowed so look for the notices coming soon.

We are in the process of putting together two more workshops for the fall: a disaster planning workshop in October with a panel format of experts from the fields of insurance, business planning, investments, office technology and document protection, and a human resources workshop in November on the subject of hiring and working with independent contractors and employees.

The chamber held its third annual charity mini-golf tournament on May 22 and a total of $1,700 was donated to the Carroll County Library, Mount Airy summer reading club.

This donation was made possible due to the members who participated and the following sponsors: Adventure Park USA, Larry Stottlemyer; Pythian Sisters, Joyce Dilks; Costco, Lorien, Paula Wilhelm; Arbonne International, Kim Witner; Eclipse Security, Aaron Kahn, Geico, Alyssa Palemo; Linganore Winery, Vania Jacobs; Mary Kay, Pauline Terrebonne; Preferred Construction, Christina Mayhew; Sandy Spring Bank, PW Shaffer; SendOutCards, Colleen Strube; Signs by Tomorrow, Rob and Debbie Truelove; SuddenValues, Chuck Boteler; Tastefully Simple, Rosemarie Solarz; Tim Barkley Law Office, Tim Barkley; and Unique Enterprises, Wendall Ingle.

Our monthly membership meeting will be held 8 a.m. today at the Mount Airy Fire Company hall. We will have our usual hour of introductions, committee reports and discussions of new and old business.
