The Star Spangled Big Band will host a "Red, White, and Blue Dance" from 8-11 p.m. Friday at the Cultural Arts Center, 15 W. Patrick St., Frederick.
The days of community dances have returned, courtesy of the Frederick Arts Council and the Star Spangled Big Band, with an evening of live music scheduled each season at the arts center.
The first of these big band dances was held in the spring, and was well received. Another will be planned in the fall and another for the holidays.
Frederick's own Star Spangled Big Band is a swing jazz band, the type prominent in the 30s and 40s. The band also plays modern numbers such as mambos, tangos, and rumbas. Founded eight years ago, the band has grown to over 20 members along with additional singers.
Members strive to maintain an affordable, performance-quality big band to help keep the Big Band and Swing experience alive in Frederick, and hope their audience have as much fun as they do each time they perform.
Tickets are $7. A cash bar and concessions will be available. Attendees are encouraged to dress patriotically and to use the arts center's Market Street entrance.
