Two Bowie pools staged the most closely contested meet of Week 2 in Prince-Mont Swim League action on Saturday.

Belair Swim & Racquet (2-0) edged Whitehall (1-1), 292-286, as the Barracudas maintained their slim lead when Natalie Leinbach, Sarah Smith, Geordie Enoch and Grace Kelly combined to win the 9-18 girls' graduated 200-meter freestyle relay. Earlier in the meet, Smith, Enoch and Kelly each won three individual events.

One of Enoch's wins came in the girls' 13-14 50-meter breaststroke, where she finished in 36.68 seconds. Her time broke a BSR pool record for her age group that had stood since 1983, and it also broke the team record set 19 years ago by Tiffany Candrell.

Whitehall stayed within striking distance heading into the relays thanks to the efforts of Jimmy Hayburn, Holly Sampson, Kristen Seeba, Trey Alexander, William Alexander, Hannah VanDress, Vincent Conti, Colin Snyder, Emily Reavis and Gianna Robey. Hayburn, Ryan Beylo, Conti and David Webster combined to win the 9-18 boys' 200 free relay by nearly 7 seconds.

Belair Bath & Tennis (1-1) rebounded from a 210-175 setback against Takoma Park in an abbreviated meet opening weekend to edge Strathmore Bel Pre, 295-283, on Saturday. Tommy Cranford, Chris Cranford Steven Rigby, Matt Gannett, Dennis Witol and Emily Boluda each won multiple events for the BBT. Joshua Meador, Rigby, Tommy Cranford and Gannett combined to win the 9-18 boys' 200 free relay.

West Arundel (2-0) maintained its perfect start to the season with a 321-253 victory over Northridge (1-1) in a Division C meet. Jay Venit, Kellianne Venit and Andria Moyer each won three events for West Arundel, while Micah Norsworthy, Alyssa Webb, Colette Pierce, Andrea Sturgis, Ryan Webb, Hunter Tessier and Danielle Villeneuve each won two events for the Aqua Ducks. West Arundel, which will host New Carrollton Recreation on Saturday, also won all three relays to cap the meet.

In another Division C meet, Cheverly Swim & Racquet (1-1) defeated New Carrollton (0-2), 295-267, despite the efforts of several current and former Eleanor Roosevelt High School swimmers. Roosevelt graduate Kendall Irish and younger brother, Trevor Irish, each won three events. Kendall Irish completed the triple by defeating former Raiders' teammate Hannah Betman in the 100 individual medley. Betman was the two-time Swimmer of the Year.

The Russett Sharks pulled out a 291.5-280.5 victory on Saturday against the Smallwood Village Marlins in a Division D meet. The teams were tied heading into the final three events of the meet. Fifteen Russett swimmers earned at least one first-place finish in the meet.

Allie Ritter (girls' 8-and-under freestyle breaststroke and backstroke), Everett Butler (boys' 11-12 butterfly, freestyle and backstroke) and Taylor Hicks (girls' 13-14 butterfly, breaststroke and individual medley) each won three events for Russett.
