After nearly 40 years as one of Montgomery Village's cultural centerpieces, the newly renovated Lawn Theater in South Valley Park got groovin' and a-shakin' Sunday. More than 200 people welcomed the Montgomery Village Community Band at the opening show of the Village's Summer Concert Series.
The $205,000 renovation, completed last month, replaced the concrete stage, installed a roof over the performance area and added stage lighting. The architect, Roger Schroeder of Architectural Concepts Group in Frederick, grew up in the Village's Whetstone community and used to go to the Lawn Theater with his parents.
The free concert series continues at 7:30 p.m. Sunday with the Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition. Here's the rest of the schedule:
July 12, Dixie Power Trio; July 19, BG and the Mojo Hands; July 26, Rock and Roll Relics; Aug. 2, (rain date) and Aug. 9,U.S. Navy Band "The Cruisers."
