In 2008, the Whitman football team revolved around the versatility of one remarkable athlete: Duke University-bound Anthony Young-Wiseman. A natural receiver and safety, he was thrust into the quarterback position simply because there was a void.
"Last year we got a little single-minded, as you do with a player of his caliber," Whitman coach Jim Kuhn said. "Who replaces Anthony Young-Wiseman and all the number of things he did for us is the biggest question. It is just a matter of getting better as a team and covering for his loss."
Whitman improved late last season, including a win over Springbrook to knock the Blue Devils out of playoff contention, and showcased impressive returning weaponry during the Upper Montgomery Passing League.
One of those players is rising junior quarterback Henry Kuhn, one of seven sophomore who started in Whitman's final four games of 2008. He handled the pressure well, completing 30 of 63 pass attempts for 394 yards and five touchdowns.
Go-to receiver Larry Kline (22 receptions, 282 yards, two touchdowns) is back in tow. Fellow senior Kevin Cecala returns in the backfield after rushing for 712 yards and four touchdowns last fall.
