Blair G. Ewing, a former member of the Montgomery County school board and County Council, died Monday of cancer. He was 75.
Ewing, of Silver Spring, had been living in Montgomery Hospice acute care for 10 days during the last stages of the illness.
Ewing had a long history of public service in the county. Most recently, he served as vice president of the state Board of Education.
Prior to that, he served on the Montgomery County Council from 1998 to 2002 and as a school board member from 1976 until his election to the council.
He worked as a senior executive at the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as its Personnel Management, Defense, and Management and Budget offices.
From 1962 to 1967, Ewing taught political science at the State University of New York at Binghamton. He also had worked as a management consultant and a reporter for the United Press. Beginning in 2003, he taught at Montgomery College.
Ewing was born in Kansas City, Mo., and received a bachelor's degree in 1954 from the University of Missouri, where he was Phi Beta Kappa.
He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1954 to 1956, and attended the University of Chicago from 1956 to 1957 as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow.
