Several local athletes medaled at the Junior Olympic Skills Competition in Germantown on May 9. First-place soccer finishes in divisional play included Cameron Stalling in U-11 boys, Brian Vanegas in U-13 boys AND Francesca Vanegas in U-11 girls. First-place tennis winners included Jackson Douglas in U-11 boys, Grace Sponaugle in U-9 girls and Kiara Simpson in U-11 girls. Brian Vanegas, Francesca Vanegas, Jackson and Douglas all won basketball competitions within their age groups, while Stalling and Brian Vanegas also earned first-place track and field finishes.
In the Damascus Baseball League, the U-8 Machine pitch Prolist Batavia Muckdogs beat the Charleston Riverdogs, 20-2. All seven Muckdog hitters produced hits in the first four innings, including Ethan Rendelman, Joey Lokos, Max Magladry, Jordan Wilkerson, Cole Robolitto, JR Ates, Ben Brown and Trey McCloskey. Riverdogs second baseman Cameron King made a defensive gem at second base, while Kenny Stott, Matt Swinford and Nolan Macek all tallied hits.
