Ehrlich seeks federal disaster aid for Montgomery, four other counties

Friday, June 30, 2006

Gov. Robert L. Ehrllich Jr. is asking President Bush to declare parts of the state, including Montgomery County, federal disaster areas. The declaration would make Montgomery, Caroline, Cecil, Harford and Dorchester counties eligible for federal aid. Additional counties could be added to the list later.

‘‘Since the rain began last weekend state and local governments across Maryland have conducted road closures, swift water rescues, evacuation and sheltering, preliminary damage assessments and other critical emergency services,” Ehrlich (R) said in a statement. ‘‘Nonetheless, I have determined that federal assistance will be necessary to help affected citizens and local governments rebuild lives, property and infrastructure. We continue to provide all appropriate assistance to flood victims during this difficult time.”
