County officialsThe Maryland General Assembly created the Frederick County government in 1748. The county is governed by five commissioners, each elected at-large to a four-year term. The commissioners administer state laws, and carry out functions specified by the state General Assembly. Bills are introduced by local senators and delegates during each legislative session. The president of the Board of County Commissioners sets the agenda and runs the meeting. The vice president fills in as necessary. The county manager runs the day-to-day operations at Winchester Hall, the seat of government.
