History
A rapidly growing community of about 1,380 people, Myersville is located on a ridge in the foothills of South Mountain along Interstate 70 in the western edge of Frederick County.
The town is primarily an agricultural and residential community, with no industry and little commercial business.
German immigrants from Pennsylvania settled Myersville in the mid-1700s. In the later 1800s, the Myersville and Catoctin Electric Railway Co. was installed between Myersville and Middletown.
The railway was expanded and eventually ran through Frederick and Hagerstown.
The town holds an annual Trolley Festival each fall, a community Christmas tree lighting and a summer carnival. Doub's Meadow Park is undergoing key upgrades.
The town was incorporated in 1904 by the Maryland General Assembly. The mayor and five council members, one of which serves as assistant mayor and one as secretary, are each elected to four-year terms. Municipal elections are held on the second Tuesday of May in even-numbered years.
New to municipal government is Myersville’s one-year-old town hall, located in the same building as its volunteer fire company on Main Street. The new 8,000-square-foot hall which opened in early spring 2007 features a new phone service, a room for town council meetings, office space and meeting rooms for local organizations. On the opposite side of the municipal hall is the Myersville Volunteer Fire Company.
The new building is complete with a community hall that is large enough to hold all Myersville residents in the event of an emergency.
The former town hall on Harp Place will be torn down and officials have designated the property for a Frederick County Public Library to be built to serve residents from the Myersville area.
