Athlete of the Year Ben Horner Brunswick Class 1A State and West Region champion in the discus and shot put, Horner’s toss of 171 feet in the discus was the best of any high school competitions this year. Even with injuries, turned in the sixth best heave in the shot put in the entire state. Coach of the Year Nick Snyder Thomas Johnson As a first-year head coach, helped the Patriots go from a rebuilding phase during indoor to Frederick County and Class 4A North Region champs. nMatt Baum Brunswick, Pole Vault Won the Class 1A state championship with a leap of 13 feet and won the Frederick County meet with a 13-3 effort. nAlex Edelmann Middletown, Pole Vault Won the Class 2A State champion with a mark of 13 feet 1.25 inches. nJimmy Harris Middletown, High Jump An underdog at the start of the season, the 2A state champ had a personal best 6-6 effort this spring. nBrent Dawson Century, 800 Dawson won the state title in the 800 meters and copped both the 400 and 800 title in the Carroll County championship meet. nQuentin Ferguson Frederick, hurdles County 300 meter hurdle champ and football star had the fourth best overall time in the 110 hurdles and recorded the 10th best time in the 300. nNick HruchLiberty, High jump In an injury-shortened senior season, Hruch still posted a leap of 6-7, second best in the state. nJacob WrightLinganore, Pole vault A member of the 13-foot club, Wright was fourth overall in the state, and second in the Class 3A state championships. nMatt KeplerMiddletown, Pole vault Kepler recorded a 13-foot effort this season and went over 12-6 on three occasions. Was second in the Class 2A state meet. nWillie BlaszkiewiczThomas Johnson, High jump Peaking at the right time, the high-flying Patriot was second in the Class 4A meet with a leap of 6-6, and also placed second in the county meet. nJoshua Mayne Linganore, Discus Was third in the discus at the Class 3A state meet while winning the West Region. Was also the county champion in the shot put. nAlex Kachalov Middletown, High jump Won the 2A West region championship with a leap of 6-4 and was third in the state meet. nNick Forbes Thomas Johnson, Discus Won several big meet titles this spring, including the 4A North Region crown. nAnthony Walker Frederick, Long jump The 2A West Region title holder in the long jump was sixth in the state meet in both the long jump as well as the triple jump. Also a standout on the Cadets football team. nNick Stine Urbana, 800 Stine won both the Frederick meet as well as the 3A West. He also finished third at the state championships. nTuscarora4x200 relay (Bryant Armour, Dominic Clarke, Fabian Gonzalez and John Robinson) This speedy contingent won both the Frederick County and 3A West Region championships while placing fourth at the state meet.
