YMCA hosts 100th annual dinner

Frederick County Family YMCA celebrated its 100th Annual Meeting and Dinner at Holly Hills Country Club on June 6, by recognizing staff members.

George Guevara received the Leadership Award, Steve Howard received the Program Innovation Award, Gretchen Nelson received the Customer Service Award, Jennifer Gerlock received the YMCA Ambassador Award, Jan Hall received the Outstanding Resource Management Award, Jennifer Coppit received the Unsing Hero Award, Kim Hart received the Team Player Award, Trisha Burmeister received the Rising Star Award, Bob Rough received the Friend of the Frederick YMCA Award, John Kemp received the Character Counts Award, Sharon McElroy received the Lewis E. Hill Employee of the Year Award, and Jim Filby received the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Dave Markoe, outgoing YMCA President and CEO, was recognized for his service and dedication to the organization and presented with original artwork commemorating the YMCA’s influence by international artist Yemi.

Receiving special awards for Maryland State Department of Education accreditation were Child Development Center employees Kelly Lesznar-Smith, Dawn Cook, Angie Edens, Tina Wolfen, Marie Williamson, Arlene Ayers, Kathy Ayers, Belma Hill, Usha Patrick, Kim Simmons and Nina Blackner.

Community members Tracey Beidleman, Jane Byron, Ed Garrett, J. Frederick Manning and Chris Smariga were voted on to the Frederick County Family YMCA’s Board of Directors at the dinner as well.

In addition, Doug Boyle, Kimberly Smith Chaney, John Dallavalle, Hunt Hendrickson, Bob Johnson, Hal Keller, Chris Murray and Larry Schin were voted on to the YMCA’s Board of Trustees.

Outgoing board members Lawrence Dorsey Jr., Jack Burdette, Dave Clark, Maurice Gladhill, Maurice Hassett, Terre Rhoderick, Sue Chapin, Bob Johnson and Dave Stuaffer were recognized during the program for their years of service on the Board of Trustees and Directors.

Health and Safetyinstructors needed

The Frederick County Chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for people interested in being Health and Safety instructors. These volunteers teach classes in CPR, First Aid, and Babysitter’s Training. Instructor course fees which are normally $150 will be reduced to $40 with commitment to teach three classes within six months of training. To register, call 301-662-5131.
