The Administration on Aging provides a wide range of services and programs to enrich the lives of older adults to maintain the highest quality of life with independence and dignity. Services and programs are provided that support aging in place, consumer choice, and promotes dignity and respect. There are special programs designed to support adult children caring for their aging parents and relatives.

Senior Information andAssistance Program
This program serves as the gateway for accessing information about a wide range of services, programs, and benefits for senior citizens. The program provides individuals with information to make informed choices; referrals to appropriate agencies, and assistance in obtaining services and benefits.

Senior Nutrition Program
Provides nutritious meals at senior centers and nutrition sites throughout the County and delivers meals to homebound seniors as needed.

Family Caregiver Program
The program provides assistance and support to people caring for their aging parents, relatives and friends and those that are involved with long distance caregiving. Services include information & referral, assistance services, supportive counseling, emergency assistance, respite care, and community education.

Senior Health Insurance Program
The program provides comprehensive health insurance counseling and assistance to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and their caregivers.

Senior Training and Employment Program (STEP)
The program helps older adults find employment by building skills and confidence through paid community service positions. Participants must be 55 or older and meet income eligibility criteria.

Senior Assisted Living Subsidy Program
The program provides financial assistance to qualified low to moderate income seniors residing in assisted living facilities throughout the County. This program helps to defray the high cost of this essential service and delays⁄prevents nursing home placement.

Elder Abuse Prevention Project
This project provides public education to the community and professionals serving older adults in an effort to prevent neglect and elder abuse.

Ombudsman Program
Promotes the highest quality of life and care possible for nursing home residents. The ombudsman investigates and seeks resolution of problems that affect residents’ rights, health, care, safety and welfare.

Public Guardianship Program
Assures the ongoing safety and well-being of the elderly by professional case managers when the Area Agency on Aging has been appointed Public Guardian by the Circuit Court.

The TeleTouch Program
Volunteers place daily reassuring calls to homebound and isolated seniors in Prince George’s County.

Foster Grandparent Program
This program provides resources for older volunteers to work with physically, mentally and emotionally handicapped children in centers and schools throughout Prince George’s County.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program
Provides volunteer opportunities for those seniors age 55 and older. Volunteers serve at over 150 nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

The Home and Community Based Services Waiver for Older Adults
Enables adults to remain in a community setting even though their advanced age or disability would warrant placement in a long-term care facility. The waiver allows services typically covered by Medicaid in a long-term care facility to be provided to eligible persons in their homes or in assisted living facilities.
