James Tholen of BroadSoft in Gaithersburg was named Private Company CFO of the Year in annual Greater Washington Technology CFO Awards program of the Northern Virginia Technology Council.
EagleBank of Bethesda created three advisory boards with the following two chairmen: Benson Klein, principal, Ward & Klein, Maryland Advisory Board; and Albert A. D'Alessandro, president, Financial Solutions, Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia Advisory boards.
Maple Life Financial of Bethesda named Daniel Beckmann director of capital markets. Previously, Beckmann was owner, president and CEO of Life Analytics and also worked for Legacy Benefits and Prudential Financial.
TLC — The Treatment and Learning Centers of Rockville named the following trustees: Melissa Pappas and Ryan Wibberley. Pappas is founder and president of Athena Consulting. Wibberley founded CIC Wealth Management Group.
CoStar Group of Bethesda named Frank A. Carchedi senior vice president, corporate development. Carchedi was CoStar's CFO from 1997 to 2007. He has also worked for Ernst & Young.
Low + Associates of Bethesda named Lisa Howard an account group director. Previously, Howard worked for MGH and Catholic Relief Services.
Berenato, White & Stavish of Bethesda hired Steven Kelber and Kyle Hepner to work on patent, intellectual property and other legal issues. Previously, Kelber was partner at Jagtiani+Guttag.

Clifton Gunderson named Matthew Birkelien and Thomas Rey partners in its Timonium office. Birkelien, of Joppa, joined the firm in 2004 through a merger. Rey, of Ellicott City, joined in 1996.
Arbitron of Columbia named Deirdre Blackwood senior vice president, corporate communications. Previously, Blackwood was vice president, corporate communications and investor relations with TerraStar Networks. She also worked for Burson-Marsteller, Manugistics, MCI Communications, ABC, CNN, U.S. Sen. John McCain and former Sen. Alfonse D'Amato.
Prometric of Baltimore named William Murtagh senior vice president of client services and sales. Previously, Murtagh was president and COO of Corinthian Schools.
Ameritox of Baltimore named Sean Hurley vice president of insurance and managed care contracting. Previously, Hurley worked for Abbott Laboratories, Quest Diagnostics, Roche Laboratories and Novo Nordisk. He is also a retired Army captain.
Evan Offstein, an assistant professor of management in Frostburg State University's College of Business, was recognized by the international journal Group & Organization Management, which named a paper he co-wrote, "The Impact of the CEO Pay Gap on Firm Competitive Behavior," Best Paper. The study investigated how pay differences between a CEO and other top managers influence a company's competitive behavior.
The Maryland Economic Development Association named the following officers: president, Kwasi G. Holman, president and CEO of the Prince George's County Economic Development Corp.; vice president, David S. Iannucci, executive director of the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development; secretary, Laurie M. Boyer, executive director of the Frederick County Office of Economic Development; treasurer, Sean M. Looney, senior director of government affairs for Comcast; and immediate past president, J. Thomas Sadowski, president of the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore.
Marshall Hotels & Resorts of Salisbury named the following regional directors: Jeff Day, operations; and Carol Bullock-Walter, Scott Becque and Pennie Oliver, all sales and marketing. Previously, Day worked with InterContinental Hotels Group, Hilton Hotels International and Radisson Hotels & Resorts. Bullock-Walter was with Starwood Hotels. Becque was regional sales and marketing director for Columbia Sussex Co.
