Man in standoff with county police in Laurel shoots, kills selfA five-hour standoff ended Wednesday night when police found a man who had barricaded himself in his apartment outside of Laurel city limits dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Cpl. Stephen Pacheco, a county police spokesman, said police entered the residence, at the 9000 block of Contee Road at around 11:19 p.m. and found the man dead. Pacheco said police do not know at this time when the man shot himself. The man, whose identity has not yet been revealed by county police, was 26. The victim barricaded himself at about 6:37 p.m. and was armed with a shotgun, said Officer Henry Tippett, a county police spokesman. ‘‘His brother and sister were able to get out and informed us that he was depressed over losing his job,” Tippett said. Tippett said the man fired one shot out of a bathroom window shortly after officers arrived on the scene at about 6:47 p.m.
