Man in standoff with county police

Prince George's County police are in the midst of a standoff with a man who has barricaded himself in his apartment building outside of Laurel city limits.

The man, whose identity has not yet been revealed by county police, is 26-years-old and barricaded himself in his apartment on the 9000 block of Contee Road at about 6:37 p.m., said county spokesman Officer Henry Tippett.

"He's in there with a shotgun and possibly a handgun," Tippett said. "His brother and sister were able to get out and informed us that he was depressed over losing his job."

Tippett said the man did fire one shot out of a bathroom window shortly after officers arrived on the scene at about 6:47 p.m.
