Ann-Marie Ritzell, Wootton, 3rd year
Ritzell was charged three years ago with turning a program from an also-ran to a county powerhouse. This year, she molded her team to an aggressive style and that went on to grab their first regional crown. She lost the state semifinal at states by the smallest margin of any girls' runner-up.

Alex Aust, Bullis, Jr., M
The most dynamic scorer in Bullis’ dymanic offense. Aust scored five or more goals in a game five teams and helped the Bulldogs to a 14-2 record and place in ISL AA semifinals.
Monica Baumgartner, Good Counsel, Soph., D
Sophomore sensation showed ability to play whole field, scoring four times on defense. But it was clamping down on opposition that landed her on Mid-Atlantic Region first team.
Angela Biciocchi, Churchill, Jr., M
Bulldogs’ most potent offensive weapon had 58 goals and 25 assists from midfield. Her Nose for the goal led to playoff upset of Sherwood and helped Churchill reach regional semifinal.
Grace Dinn, Holy Cross, Sr., M
Committed to play at St. Joseph’s (Pa.), Dinn was a steadying influence in midfield for Tartans. Helped Holy Cross thwart opponents' net charges and reach WCAC semifinals.
Molly Donaghue, Blake, Jr., GK
MCPS Defensive Player of the Year helped Blake make surprising return to regional final. She forced 19 turnovers and saved 58 percent of shots on goal, including 60 percent in 4A-3A West final.
Bailey Fogarty, Holton-Arms, Sr., M
Virginia-bound midfielder became an offensive force this season. Scored 32 goals, added 10 assists and roamed the field, gathering 62 ground balls and winning 32 draw controls.
Leslie Grill, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Sr., A
Barons’ leading scorer was a consistent weapon. In quarterfinal against Blair, provided capstone of her career and scored five goals in one game for the third time in season.
Lucy Hayes, Holton-Arms, Sr., M
Panthers’ leading scorer for second straight year will play at North Carolina. Netted 42 goals, had 19 assists and gathered 76 ground balls. Her 50 draw controls were also tops on team.
Liza Kaplan, Wootton, Sr., A
Kaplan netted 40 goals and added 21 assists because of quick, slashing forays to the net that served as change-of-pace to Klatzkin. Scored twice in state semifinal.
Hayley Katzenberger, Holy Cross, Sr., M
Repeat first-teamer because of prowess around net. Katzenberger was the Tartans’ second-leading scorer and played the whole field, Often dropping back to mark opposition’s most potent attackers.
Liz Kubis, Sherwood, Sr., M
Defender-turned-midfielder led Sherwood in goals, with 43, and forced turnovers, with 20, showing all-around skills. Plans to walk on at Bucknell (Pa.).
Alissa Peterson, Quince Orchard, Jr., A⁄M
Offensive juggernaut led Cougars with 78 goals. Due to skill around net, Quince Orchard lost just once during regular season and made it to 4A⁄3A North Region semifinals.
Christina Roa, Bullis, Sr., GK
An ISL AA Division first-team selection, Roa led the Bulldogs’ defense, saving more than 60 percent of shots taken against her. Will play at Colgate next year.
Mary Swarthout, Good Counsel, Sr., A
One of four seniors, provided leadership with 34 goals and 20 assists. Catholic-bound attacker scored four times in the WCAC final as Falcons clinched fourth-straight title.
