Jared Pinsky

Churchill, Jr.

Used wicked lefty forehand to compile 16-2 record en route to second consecutive Montgomery County tournament title and third straight state tournament appearance. Struggling with back injury, two-time defending state champion fell in semifinals.

Coach of the year

Jack Schore

Bullis, 16th year

Led the Bulldogs to a 15-0 record for their second consecutive undefeated season. Won second straight Interstate Athletic Conference and season-ending Ben Johns tournament titles.

First team

Will BeckBullis, Jr.

Carried weight of Bulldogs’ squad on shoulders well. Used natural power generated by 6-foot-3 frame, coupled with toughness and agility to post a 16-3 record at No. 1 singles. Won No. 1 singles bracket at Ben Johns tournament to help Bulldogs to second straight title.

Chris GoodwinRockville, Soph.

No sophomore slump here. Built on success of last year, displaying a mature game, featuring a variety of spins, speeds and finesse, to boast a 14-2 record. Reached the county tournament final, taking the first set from Pinsky. Won Region II tournament and cruised to final at states.

Adam NewmanWalter Johnson, Sr.

Crafty all-court player, used consistency and strength off the ground, coupled with effective serve, to compile a 12-2 record, including a run to the county semifinals, where he fell to Pinsky.

Dan StahlWhitman, Jr.

Vikings’ No. 1 missed much of season for various U.S. Tennis Association national tournaments, but used big serve and ground game for 8-0 regular-season mark and pushed Pinsky to brink in Region II semifinals.

Andrew ZutzBullis, Jr.

Scrappy player with ability to pull the trigger whenever necessary. Dominated No. 2 singles position this year, going 19-0 without losing a set to help Bulldogs to second consecutive IAC and Ben Johns titles.

Andrew Taylor (Jr.)⁄Jason Luo (Soph.)Wootton

Stellar at the net, with the ability to keep the ball in play from the baseline, the Patriots’ No. 1 duo went undefeated. Helped Wootton to a second-place finish in the county’s Division I regular season and third-place showing at county meet. Posted a 12-0 mark, including county No. 1 doubles tournament title.

Gregory Howard (Sr.)⁄Charles Kong (Fr.)Blair

Feared tandem boasted 13-2 record en route to semifinals of county tournament. Helped Blair to second-place finish, just behind three-time defending champion Churchill.

Casey Fashouer (Jr.)⁄Doug Silverstein (Jr.)Bullis

Relentless duo finished 19-0 at No. 1 doubles, including a win at season-ending Ben Johns tournament. Just as capable of playing consistently from the ground to wear down opponents as hitting the big winners.
