Thanks to the free "Alert Montgomery" notification system, I received a text alert on May 26 about the potential for flooding during last week's rain storm. Alerts have also warned me about road closures and more.
The alert included an interesting statistic. It said that the alert was sent to 544 users. Doesn't that sound like a very low number in a county of almost one million residents?
It shouldn't be news to people that taking a few simple steps can make a big difference in ensuring their safety during an emergency.
The can go online and check out the free resources that governments provide to help them prepare for an emergency. The should visit www.ready.gov and www.pandemicflu. gov. If you live or work in Montgomery County, visit www.montgomerycountymd.gov and follow the link to sign up for the free "Alert Montgomery" system to stay informed of emergencies (weather, traffic, etc.) in our community.
