Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service officials were monitoring Seneca Creek today as the heavy rain was expected to cause the creek to crest near flood level tonight. The creek runs from Damascus to the Potomac River near Darnestown.
The county is under a flood warning from the National Weather Service. About 3.2 inches of rain was recorded in Chevy Chase and 2 inches in Gaithersburg as of about 8:15 a.m., said Mark Hoekzema, director of meteorological operations for weather service WeatherBug.
Sections of a few roads, including Sligo Creek Parkway, were closed due to high water. In addition, a number of power lines were downed by falling trees, said fire and rescue spokesman Pete Piringer.
No injuries were reported from trees falling or from the high water, Piringer said.
County police investigated several vehicle crashes related to the wet roads, a spokeswoman said.
