Red Cross lookingfor youth volunteers The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross is seeking county youth volunteers for the summer. The Red Cross wants volunteers to assist staff at blood collection sites in the area. Youth volunteers greet donors, offer them information and refreshments, and observe them for post-donation reactions. There will be a training session for interested youth 10 a.m. to noon June 26 at the Red Cross’ Prince George’s County office at 6206 Belcrest Road in Hyattsville. Volunteers can earn service learning hours for their participation. Volunteers are asked to commit to six operations over the summer, with individual shifts lasting about five hours each. The position is for teenagers at least 14 years old who have their own transportation. Attend summer camp Prince George’s County Public Schools is running its Up, Up and Away summer program for middle school students. This year’s program will be held at the University of Maryland, College Park. The Up, Up and Away program teaches students about the science of flight through demonstrations, hands-on projects, field trips and guest speakers. The camp runs July 7-18, Monday through Friday. Days begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Before care and after care are available at 8 a.m. and until 4 p.m. The program is open to all students entering sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Students are required to bring lunch every day, as none is provided. The camp costs $300 before May 31 and $325 after that. Before and after care are both $25, but both can be purchased for $40.
