Longwood Recreation Center, a busy gathering spot for the greater Olney community, boasts a new weight and exercise room.

Longwood officials will dedicate the new facility to the Longwood Advisory Committee for pushing for recent renovations to the community center, including the installation of a mural depicting Longwood’s history and a new gymnasium floor, director Sophenia Randolph said.

The ceremony will be held 7-9 p.m. today at Longwood, 19300 Georgia Ave. in Brookeville.

‘‘It’s an older building,” Randolph said. ‘‘We want to keep its character, but we also want it to be useful for our patrons and participants.”

The new weight and exercise room features more treadmills and elliptical and stair machines, along with weight machines.

‘‘It’s all very user-friendly,” Randolph said.

Seniors may use the weight and exercise room for free at designated times. For all others, membership options range from $55 to $135.

Tonight’s event will include door prizes, a free workout and an opportunity to obtain a Montgomery County Recreation ACCESS card printed while they wait, as well as information on health and fitness programs offered through the recreation department.
