Robert Jefferson ‘‘Lincoln” Stephens, 81, of Silver Spring died of pneumonia on March 24, 2008.

Born July 21, 1926, in Sealston, Va., he was the son of the late Charles C. and Flossie E. Stephens.

He was the husband of the late Shirley J. Stephens.

Mr. Stephens attended Montgomery Blair High School and served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Stephens’ Cleaners in Burtonsville for several years and was a former member of the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Wheaton Lodge 228 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masonry and a member of Buomi Temple, Ancient Order of Mystic Shrine in Baltimore.

Survivors include seven children, R. Lawrence Stephens of Ijamsville, Scott Stephens of Wilmington, N.C., Alan B. Stephens of Silver Spring, Marjorie L. Hanlon of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Dana M Schneiders of Wake Forest, N.C., Amy S. Wheeler of Georgetown, Del., and Barbara A. Calvarese of Phoenix, Md.; two sisters, Jeanette Edwards of Laurel and Estelle Riemer of Fairland; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Slydelle Morgan of King George, Va. and Lorraine Allen of Fairland; and one brother, Charles C. Stephens Jr. of Tampa, Fla.

Burial was in King George, Va., on March 27.
