A Germantown man was attacked and robbed early Sunday morning by a group of men who asked for a ride and then stole his car, police said.

The 18-year-old had parked his car in a neighborhood parking lot at about 12:40 a.m. when he was approached by four black males as he was crossing the street toward his home in the 13000 block of Smokewood Terrace, according to a Montgomery County Police statement and Officer Tenesha Bellamy, a police spokeswoman.

The men began asking him questions. When he said he would not give the men a ride, they assaulted him, according to the statement.

The suspects then stole the man’s wallet and car keys, and fled in his black Toyota Corolla, according to the statement. They were last seen driving on Great Seneca Highway. The car has not been recovered, Bellamy said Tuesday afternoon.

The Germantown man was taken to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, Bellamy said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the county police’s Major Crimes Division, Robbery Section, at 240-773-5100.
