A 3-year-old girl fell nearly 15 feet out of a second-floor window of a Burtonsville townhouse Thursday afternoon, but her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, according to fire and rescue officials.

Rescue workers responded to the 14600 block of Wexhall Terrace about 4:40 p.m. Thursday and treated the girl on the scene, said Pete Piringer, spokesman for the county Fire and Rescue Service. A passer-by reported the girl had been temporarily unconscious before medics arrived, Piringer said.

The girl was home with her grandmother and apparently leaned against a window screen, said Officer Melanie Hadley, a spokeswoman for Montgomery County Police.

Fire and rescue workers said the girl’s fall was broken by a bush.

Hadley said police are viewing the incident as an accident, and no charges are likely.

Piringer said fire and rescue workers have had ‘‘a couple of these instances in the last couple weeks. ... Especially with the nice weather, it’s a good reminder for parents to make sure windows are secured.”
