Damascus native Jason Collins is the new owner of King Floor on Ridge Road in Damascus.
Collins, the grandson of Monroe Duvall and the late Peggy Duvall, grew up in Damascus and lives on the family farm just outside of town.
"People I grew up with, my parents and grandparents know — I enjoy seeing them come in and helping them out," Collins said.
Collins, a firefighter in Washington, D.C., owned a small flooring business in the District. When he heard King Floor was available, he bought it, he said.
Collins is on duty as a firefighter four days a month, so when he is gone, the store is in the capable hands of Dale Browning and the other long-time employees, he said.
"We'll give a different type of customer service to the people who live in town," Collins said.
That service will include adding carpet cleaning services and letting do-it-yourselfers borrow equipment.
