Barrie School raises money for help in NigerFaculty, students and families from The Barrie School will participate in ‘‘A Walk for Water” 10 a.m. May 12 at Lake Frank in Rock Creek Regional Park, 5100 Meadowside Lane, Rockville. Participants will walk 3.25 miles around the lake to raise money for the Amman Imman, a nonprofit program that is dedicated to improving and saving lives by supplying permanent sources of water to the people living in the Azawak Valley in Niger, Africa. Vicky Temple, a spokeswoman for The Barrie School, said it is important for children to learn about international problems and help when they can. ‘‘It’s part of our mission to promote the respect for self, others and the environment, and I think that part of that is getting [students] more socially aware and interested in the bigger picture,” Temple said. Temple said The Barrie School became aware of the program when students from the Oneness-Family School in Chevy Chase came to Barrie to do a presentation. Registration is $10. All children must be accompanied by an adult. To register or for more information about the walk, call 301-652-7751, ext. 17 or e-mail walkforwater@onenessfamily.org.
