Erin Marr of Frederick has made big changes to her lifestyle as a result of skyrocketing gas prices.
Until mid-March, Marr was commuting by car every day for three years, down Interstate 270.
“It cost about $250 a month,“ Marr said. “It seemed like gas just kept going up and up.“
It was time to make a change. She quit her job at United Communication Group in Rockville, parked her Pontiac Vibe in the driveway and transformed her Yamaha TTR 125 from an off-road dirt bike to a street bike. She now uses it to commute four miles to her job at Edible Arrangements in Frederick.
“My husband and I are brand-new parents ... so we want to save money in any way that we can,“ she said.
Marr can travel 80 miles on her bike before filling up her 1-gallon tank. Now she spends less than $7 for a week’s worth of gas.
“I’m able to spend a lot more time with my family [too],” Marr said.
