A prostitute and one of her acquaintances allegedly assaulted a man who hired the woman after she posted an advertisement on Craigslist, the Prince George’s County police said.

The man met the woman at a home in the 5100 block of Kenesaw Street in College Park just before 5 a.m. Sunday, and went inside a bedroom, police said. The man heard a door creak, became apprehensive and told the woman he wasn’t interested anymore and started to leave, police said.

The prostitute shoved the man and called for someone named ‘‘Boo,” police said.

The victim heard footsteps coming toward him and ran outside toward his car, police said. As he was trying to get into his car, he heard a gunshot and ran across the street.

Police have identified the man nicknamed ‘‘Boo” as Larry Elliott Anthony, 30, of the same home where the incident happened. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, said Lt. John Hipps, commander of the county police District I Investigative Section.

Anthony has been charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree and second-degree assault, use of a handgun in a violent crime and weapons charges, Hipps said. The handgun charge may be amended because Anthony allegedly fired a shotgun, Hipps said.

Anthony and the prostitute, who has not been identified, both ran from the scene, Hipps said. He could not say if Anthony was the woman’s pimp.

The woman is the latest prostitute to advertise on Craigslist, Hipps said. Several arrests have been made in the last few months, he said.

‘‘It’s not unusual at all,” he said. ‘‘We’ve been making several arrests up and down Route 1 in the hotels.”
